TITLE="Full body shot of a Lego Skeleton Warrior with sword." align="left"> Literally. That's all I have for the update. I spent most of this week inking a commission and putting a ScrollBoss update together. Fortunately it's a picture that people really enjoyed from the Creature Iller Horror Theatre weekend: Lego Skeleton Warrior! Creepy or cute? The choice is yours.

Another thing I did this weekend was go to a G.I.JOE fan shindig where I got to meet a lot of people from the boards, have a lot of fun and resist the urge to spend a lot of money. One cool thing was meeting artist Lou Graziani, creator of the site that I just added to the artist links section:

Time some time to browse around his site!

TITLE="Slimer flying right at you. Don't get slimed!">

The newness this week includes Mindsight finally being in full color, Cobra Commander and Quick Kick getting Joesplosion backgrounds and improved coloring and Slimer making the jump to base color mode. There have been a few fixes to other artpages and character tags (including Cobra C.L.A.W.S. and Cobra Sub Commander) and News Archive function on the main menu has been improved.

Not only that, but this update marks Illmosis' 4th year in haunting it's small corner of the internet. It's not big, fancy or famous but it's my home. I was a bit too worn out to do anything special for the anniversary. The most important thing is to thank all of you who still stop in every once in a while to check out the scribbles that I keep uploading. While I have a lot of fun drawing this stuff, it's even better when there are other people checking it out. You were a big part of motivation to fight my way out of that artist's constipation that I had for so long. There's still a lot of work for me to do here and I hope you stick around for the rest of the crazy mess that I have on the way. Many more original characters, teaser and intro comics for those characters and a story about this comic universe's history are just the basic things I have cookin'. Thanks for supporting the site all these years and know that the illest is yet to come.

This weekend, I celebrate this site's first Creature Iller Horror Theatre (named as a salute to a classic SCTV sketch) by drawing a lot of horror or monster characters adding them to the site as soon as I can. I had a great, great time with my friends, ran into old friends, meet new cool people and saw what I hope will be a regularly occurring convention for Northeastern Ohio. If there's another convention next year, I will make it a mission to have my own table. One very cool photo that I was incredibly lucky to take can be seen in the gallery for the new Batgirl picture. Even I have to admit that I like how this pic turned out and someone important in the photo seems to agree :)

I'll be making more Beans vs. Cornbread blog posts about the convention and they'll be found under the Screaming Tikicon tag. My friends took some pictures that I'll share once I get them. That way, my lil' art folder will have stuff more recent than 2004 in it. One of the things printed was a version of the Catwoman picture I just posted here that doesn't the background that I made last night. Too bad I can't get back out to Kinko's to get the new background printed up. Yes, that's a new Catwoman pic and it's part of this week's update. The other bit of newness is a version of my Snake-Eyes pic but with a Joesplosion in the background to pay tribute to the toy packaging. I still feel a bit sick so I'm going to try and get some rest before another work week.

TITLE="Beans vs. Cornbread in a dramatic staredown.">

Despite being sick, I'm still trying to get things ready for a book that it doesn't look like I'll finish in time for the convention. Considering all the stuff that I finished last week, I can only imagine how much more I'd get done if I weren't sick. The good news is that I finally put together a passable pic for Phenomenon from the Vigilants. Out of all the character redesigns I've done in the past few years, this one is my favorite. The second (yes, TWO new pics this week!) stars the duo that I named my blog for: Beans vs. Cornbread. I was going to use this art in the new blog template that I made for the place but it just didn't work out. Still... it's Beans vs. Cornbread and I may be able to use this in the book.

I also set up this CuteNews module to automatically generate an RSS feed instead of making a separate one. I may still update the one that I started a few weeks ago but I figured I'd use the CuteNews version which does things much better than I do by hand.

Batterram, Batmobile and news

Blargh. Caught a nasty cold early last week which has killed a lot of my building momentum. I did accomplish a few things, though. For one, the big guy over there is Batterram, one of my oldest characters and a founding member of the Vigilants (then known as the Protectors). Secondly, I got the last Lego parts that I needed before publicly showing that thing I teased last week: the classic Super Powers Batmobile in Lego form. It's been one of my main Lego goals since I was a young'un and I've been scheming to do it once I got back into Lego. Plus, if you went to this site's URL instead of going straight to the main menu page, you something that you'll see in the upcoming "Main Universe" comic that I'm working on. If you missed it, check it out now.

I need to get some rest but also need to still work on comissions, so I've decided that I probably won't do much more color work until after the convention. Since the upcoming Illmosis mini-book won't be in color, there's no point in slowing myself down with doing that. If I can shake this cold, expect more character shots than usual. Another thing that needs to be up to snuff before the convention is this:

Beans vs. Cornbread will be on the business end of more loving that you'd expect. Besides that unfinished template, there's... something else that will go down at Beans vs. Cornbread and this post will be the start of it. How? You'll find out in October. See you next week!

Mindsight (Base Color), previews and announcements

Sorry to have another disappointing weekend update, but having Mindsight in base color mode is all that I can show right now. I'm getting more and more of that "Universe Intro" story laid out in thumbnail sketches along with redesigns for over a dozen characters. I'm just getting to the part where

My current plan is to cobble together a small black and white minicomic all about my current Illmosis sites: Illmosis, ScrollBoss and the Beans vs. Cornbread blog. An preview of the Universe Intro story will be in it if I have time along with a slightly different version of the "Nutroll:The Illness" teaser. I'm not exactly sure what will make it into the book, but I want all the sites to represented in there. Beans vs. Cornbread may not be much to speak of right now, but that's going to change very, very soon.

Before I go, here are some pics of two things that I'm working on. First up is my own Quarters pattern. I've been saving old-style quarters (no state quarters) since late last year although I kept dipping into the savings when I was low on funds. Here they are on the scanner:

Next up is the something that I'll be adding to the toy section. It's something I've always wanted to build with Lego parts and now it's nearly done. If the last few needed pieces that I ordered get here before next weekend, you'll see the full thing in the next update.

I'm not joking when I say that I work on a lot of stuff at the same time. Gotta go and get back to work on something else. I'll see you next week with what I hope to be a good week as far as content goes.
