Poison vs Billy stare-down (Poison and Billy) - 2009
Artwork by James Beaver

When the Final Fight arcade game was ported to the Super Nintendo system, many things were removed or changed for the Amercian release. One of the biggest changes was to get rid of Poison and Roxy, two of the more memorable villains in the game. Both ladies were replaced with two guys named Billy and Sid. They were drawn to fit into the old bounding boxes already programmed into the game so they still move like Poison and Roxy and that's why Billy is imitating Poison here. This happened in a few other video games of that era and this horribly-drawn pic was drawn for my ScrollBoss article about that censorship phenomenon. I penciled this on one piece of paper and drew Poison first. Then I folded the picture in half and traced her pose to draw Billy. This is a reference to how Poison's sprites were traced to make Billy's sprite set. It's basically the horror of two characters seeing their drastically different counterpart from an alternate universe.
