Illvember 2025: Ace and Nutroll
November 26th, 2025 by James Beaver |
|
ILLVEMBER brings back the Ace of Clubs, another hero from my and the site’s past, and she’s gotten more of a makeover than Nutroll got, including an alternate version with a full hood! Speaking of that, Nutroll’s new design is here! Sure, it may not seem like much to you, but that part of the mask was one of the few (if not only) unchanged parts of his design since the 1992 original! And weirdly enough, I’m already getting used to drawing it.
Also added is a page for pixelart of my Holiday Mascots, starting with Hazelle and Santessa. Santessa’s been active on ScrollBoss for a couple of years, when her character was put in charge of the toy aisle backgrounds and the store was given her new first name: Hilde, but I explain that in the gallery page.
“HOLD UP, wait-a-minute, how did he get the new mouth on his mask?”
Don’t worry, I got it on video:
Believe it or not, that’s the first time I’ve really animated Nutroll, at least outside of my own head. But that’s just a taste, one of my main goals has been to animate my own characters.
Thanks for coming through and I hope you have happy whatever you do or don’t celebrate, I just hope you have a good weekend!

Illvember 2025 starts now
November 10th, 2025 by James Beaver |

Back in the first 2025 site update for my ScrollBoss site, Nutroll covered his mask with a sign that said “Not Yet” and then popped up again months later during that site’s 25th anniversary with a sign that had”11-11 illvember” scrawled on it. We’re on the eleventh day of the eleventh month (a few days shy of the site’s anniversary) and now it’s time to start Illvember, a celebration of Illlmosis, and that means I should probably bring this site back to life, right? RIGHT. And to kick that off I’m adding new pixelart of Nutroll and another one of my characters, my first character, M-Wave. M-Wave gets a standing sprite in a new pixel style, but Nutroll? he finally lowers the sign only to show that his mask no longer has a mouth drawn on it. He’s up to something, but I feel like he’ll get it straightened out before the end of this month.
Speaking of which, This Illvember event will be going on ALL MONTH. Every few days I’m going to update out-of-date pixel art gallery pages and add a few new ones. I’ve done A LOT of work over at ScrollBoss and it’s time to start bringing it over here. I’ll also be adding the new Illmosis-related pixel work to the ScrollBoss site. It’s going to be a lot of site work, but it needs to be done. To start that, the other new thing added to the site today was a page for the newer ScrollBoss site characters who mostly debuted while Illmosis was in hibernation. Vonetta, Maddie, Amelia, and Jilly make their debut here in the second new gallery page.
At some point, I’ll post some new line art. Really, I’ve been drawing less detailed line art to scan and turn into pixel art, but not much like the detailed work that I used to post here. Besides concentrating on pixel related stuff, the current state of the internet swallowing up new fodder for slop killed a lot of my desire to show new line art online. But it’ll be back.
Keep an eye out for a lot of updates this month with some new pixel art every week, and maybe Nutroll will fix his mask before we get to December. You’ll see a line art preview of the next sprite if you look at the extras on one of today’s new pages.
Last but definitely not least, Happy Veteran’s Day to all those who served!

15th Anniversary
November 6th, 2019 by James Beaver |
Surprise, I didn’t completely neglect the site on its birthday! Currently taking a break to get some rest, but I just had to sketch my poor old neglected characters. Will this turn into something bigger later on? *shrugs*
sketches of Nutroll, M-Wave, Passion Tanaka, Ice Cream Man. But for what?

Illmosis 12th Anniversary
November 6th, 2016 by James Beaver |
|
It’s the 12th anniversary of the Illmosis site! Between sinus problems and a month-long stretch of trying to churn out horror sprites for the DangerTerrorHorrorThon on ScrollBoss, I’m a little tired. There’s still some newness to be had with the Hazelle sprite seen on the other site (but with a new, simple background) and an all-new Nutroll sprite. Both gallery pages have .GIFs made from different points of progress as I worked on the sprites.
Now that the big code rewrite of the GFX Generators on ScrollBoss is finally done and the DangerTerrorHorrorThon there is over, I can give this place some of the attention it’s needed for a long time. Sorry for the absence and I’ll try to breath some life back into this spot!

11th Anniversary
November 6th, 2015 by James Beaver |
This isn’t an 11th Anniversary post as much as it’s a “this place isn’t dead” post. I haven’t updated since the All-AmeriCon and a lot has happened since then. So this post is going to play catch-up and talk about what’s next.
Sprites were made and posted on ScrollBoss, including a lot of horror characters for another DangerTerrorHorrorThon that wrapped up on Halloween.

Updating the sprite group pics on this site to add sprites is too time consuming, which is part of why they haven’t been updated in months. ScrollBoss’ sprite galleries are easy to update, but lack the features that the I made for the art galleries. I’ll stick to adding single pieces here (including pixel art prints) until I can make one merged gallery system.
I did some commission pixel work, but you’ll have to wait to see the ridiculously fun background I made. The biggest thing was buying Anime Studio 10 with money I made at the All-AmeriCon and then, for once, following through with trying to learn a recent art program purchase.
It’s easier for me to learn the ropes of the program using pixel art, so that’s part of why my focus has been on that. The program can also use Manga Studio/Clip Studio files, so that’s even more incentive for me to learn those program and transition to having fun with drawn art in the program.

I was going to talk about things I plan to work on, but that never works out well for me, does it? Example: plans to do a big group of Illmosis character sprites for this update fell off when my sinus problems decided to hit me with a truck, and my concentration is so shot that even typing this post is tougher than it should be. That didn’t stop me from getting a Nutroll sprite finished. I’ve been working on some character redesigns and revamps while doing the pixel art sketches, like Exponent over there. Her hair color change is thanks to how a major TV show decided to have a redhead who can make duplicates of herself. I also shortened her hair in hero mode so that her silhouette looks less like Mindsight’s. Honestly, I dig the purple hair, so it all worked out. I’ll be making more Illmosis sprites this month and I’ll add them to ScrollBoss in a special update.
