Kazuya (Tekken) - 1999
Artwork by James Beaver

Back in 1999, I was a stone-cold Tekken 2 freak. When I heard that there was a comic being worked on, I started doing some artwork to send to the company producing it. I sent 3 pencilled pics of fighters (Kazuya, Anna and Lei Wulong), one fully drawn and colored cover-style pic and a one page fight scene with Marshall Law vs. Baek. Sent that and contact info to the company, but got no response. First thought: Man, I'm not even worth sending a rejection letter to. Later, I heard that the company either closed shop or lost the Tekken license. The comic shop I buy from never got any of the books it ordered from them, so I'm guess that was true.

Although I feel that I got the pose right, it does feel like enough of Kazuya's real personality came through here. A bit over-rendered with the cross-hatching, but hey: I was trying to get hired in the 1990's. You rememeber what it was like then, right?
