Grunt - cutout art (G.I.JOE) - 1999
Artwork by James Beaver

Another in the cutout series of G.I.JOE pics of the last century. Can't believe that was so long ago. Grunt here is full-on old-school. He was part of the first release wave of the 1980s-style G.I.JOE figures that many mistake for just being a regular trooper. That's mostly from people who only remember the cartoon. In the comics, he proved his ability to kick the butt time and time again. He's reappeared in the new G.I.JOE figure revival to show the young'un how the old-school cats get down. In a sentimental twist, I found a bunch of unassembled G.I.JOE parts a few years ago, but most of them were incomplete... except one. That's right, Grunt. That makes Grunt the only Joe figure that I've had since childhood. He's kinda rickety, but that's part of being old-school. I used that figure as a visual reference to draw this very picture you see here. See? That long-winded story WAS going somewhere after all.
