Illmosis 2011 Party Flyer: done. Secret Awesome President motivational picture: done. I’ve got to go. Don’t forget that the
All Americon is THIS COMING SUNDAY. Lots of great artists, retailers and cool people will be there. I’ll be there with prints to sell and flyers to give out! Admission is only $2 so you won’t be broke before seeing what’s inside!
Edit (2011 May 10th, 4 AM): The boring ScrollBoss bubble on the flyer just didn’t sit well with me so I replaced it with a new one that includes a scratch-made sprite of Brody Lawler. Who’s that? He’s an amalgam of different brawlers from various old beat-em-up games. I’ll have more about that sprite in the next update but here it is by itself:
I sketched out the basic pose on paper, scanned it, used the Wacom tablet to trace it, shrank it to sprite size and started doing all the shading and detail work. This was the first time I did that and it’s not bad for a semi-rush job. Yes, the tablet even makes sprites easier!

Kilowog now has a background that’s another attempt of trying to make quick, decent space backgrounds. I think I’m getting better with the quickly made planets. That M-Wave picture I drew nearly a year ago is finally in full color thanks to the Wacom tablet. M-Wave’s new art was part of an overall update to his
character profile. I really haven’t had an update this productive in a while and that’s on top of having a
ScrollBoss update on Saturday.
All-Americon 2011 is only half a month away and I’m trying to get a few more things done in time for that. Hopefully I can get another party flyer together because people really seemed to like the first one. Keep your fingers crossed!

I spent much of last week feeling like crap thanks to some sinus problems but I still managed to get some work done with the sites including this Kilowog picture. I promised someone at last year’s
All-Americon that I’d have it ready for next year’s shindig and it took me this long to come up with a pose that I worked and wasn’t too similar to the Hal Jordan pic from 2009. I’ll have a background for this before the convention goes down on May 25th.
Bad, unsurprising news: I won’t have the Illmosis Scrapbook done in time for the convention. I’m thinking of doing something slightly different and smaller for the ashcan while saving the Scrapbook name for a different, bigger concept. I have no idea if I’ll have this smaller ashcan done, printed, cut and stapled in time for the convention but I’ll take the ol’ college stab at it or whatever.
There will be a ScrollBoss update this week with lots of little random things in it.

This was the first real test I’ve had with the Wacom tablet I bought and I think I officially dig it. Click on the little picture up there to check out the gallery page where you can see the whole picture along with a close-up of some details I never could’ve done with just a mouse. The tablet allows me to speed up my line-cleaning and coloring process quite a bit so progress is a bit less turtle-like. Yeah, I think you’ll start to see more color artwork on this site thanks to the tablet.

Another lazy update. This is Upski Daisy, a character from a project that I’ve been teasing for a long time. Between trying to get the different drawing style down for this thing and trying to get a design that worked, you can see the struggle all through this pic. I had an earlier try at drawing her that fell apart as I was inking in it. This design seems to work though it’s not good enough to be a profile pic. Click to see the larger version.

I apologize for the lateness of this even though I don’t guarantee weekly updates anymore. The Illmosis Scrapbook I’m working on will have character pages but some of these people need better full body pics than what they have now. Passion Tanaka goes first because she really needed some new artwork.
This pic will have a gallery page in the next update and you’ll see the early pencil pic I drew yesterday that served as a base for this version. I don’t know what else will be in the next update because I need get some practice on the new Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch tablet I bought last week. It speeds up some of the painfully slow parts of the digital side of my scribbling. I’ll probably put the “Accepting Commissions” sign up again once I get all of this sorted out.

No, I couldn’t think of anything else. Here’s Eddie ‘Skate’ Hunter from Sega’s Streets of Rage series. The series is known in Japan as Bare Knuckle where he’s called Sammy Hunter. 2011 is the 20th anniversary of the Streets of Rage series so I wanted to make sure I got at least one SoR pic in. Yeah, 20th anniversaries aren’t really important as the true order is 1st, 5th, 10th, 25th, 50th and 100th but the 20th anniversary is the excuse I’m going with here.
To go along with the fully-shaded ‘Skate’ Hunter pic, ScrollBoss gets an update tomorrow with a little bit of everything including some Marvel vs. Capcom 3-related sprite edits and Graphic Generator updates.

I didn’t plan to have the Storm picture in fully shaded mode for the first day of spring and I’m not going to front like I did. It’s just nice when things work out that way. This will be one of the last full-color fan art pics I do before the All-Americon convention in May because I’ll be putting the Illmosis Scrapbook together. I came up with a few concepts for the character pages you’ll see in the book and I’ll post an example once it’s ready. They’ll be like profile pages but with a lot more art. Also: that next ScrollBoss update will be sometime this week with some Marvel vs. Capcom 3 related things being added to the Graphic Generators.

The new picture will be the main part of the cover for the first Illmosis Scrapbook, a collection of random, ridiculous stuff that I’ve been threatening to make for a long time. There’s still a lot of work to do for this and I may not have it done in time for the All Americon convention this year but it will be done this year. It will have art, character pages, a slightly different version of that old “Nutroll: the Illness” teaser, The Twofold teaser and some things that you haven’t seen yet. It will be up for sale on this site a while after it’s done.
Site news: Main updates for the site will definitely be on Mondays now. ScrollBoss updates will be a bit small until after the convention in May. This week’s update will bring a few new things for the GFX Generator like palettes (including Green + White Rogue and Mango Sentinel) and at least one new Marvel vs. Capcom 3 character.

The chef here is Peter Pepper from the old Burgertime game by Data East. I based him on the in-game sprite and drew him in the cartoon style I’ve been trying to get a grip on recently. The other new thing is a headswap on that Storm picture I posted last week. I wasn’t happy with it then but the new head fixes the main issue I had with it. Click on the small thumbnail pics to see their gallery pages.
