Sprites of Jem from the 80's toy and cartoonScratch-made sprites of Aaron Pinsky's Sheol characters.
Two new scratch-made sprites make up today’s update. Sarah Taylor, another character from Aaron Pinsky’s Sheol stories, is added to the Sheol page along with a short bio from the writer himself. I was going to show you one of the sprites I made for this week’s big Avengers-centric ScrollBoss update but decided to save that for later. What you get instead is Jem, the truly outrageous animated pop-star from the 80’s and hopeful future contender in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

I’m short-changing you a bit in this update. I have two more scratch-made sprites done but I’m saving them for this week’s ScrollBoss update. I’ll finish this post up with a preview of them.

Scratch-made sprites of Aaron Pinsky's Sheol characters.

Today’s update is another sprite based on characters from Aaron Pinsky’s Sheol stories. Those sprites will have a single page that you can check out in this link along with a bit of info about the characters.

ScrollBoss had an update last week where I added a bunch of overdue Street Fighter and Double Dragon characters to the GFX Generators so you can make fake screenshots and group pics with them. There will be a small-but-important anniversary update for that site.

I’ve been working on a lot of unseen things for Illmosis, ScrollBoss and “The War Begins Again” for a while and the updates here have suffered for it. The updates haven’t been big for a while but that will change soon. Here’s a preview of something that I’m hoping to finish for the next ScrollBoss update and will be seen here soon after that.

Also, the Commissions page has been updated with prices and the fact that there are two pixel art commission slots open right now.

Happy Independence Day! Here’s a sprite:

Aaron Pinsky (a.k.a. Psychoblue) commissioned me to make a sprite of his character, Areva Petchyindee. Learn more about Areva along with her allies and enemies in this post on the Tekken Nation board. This sprite will have a gallery page in the next update.

BTW: ScrollBoss got a microscopic update. The transparent shadows in the GFX Generator are now unified instead of being separate, overlapping shadows that have darker areas when they cross. There’s a real update coming later this week but I decided to throw that in early.

Not much going on today, folks. I added a few Green Lantern sprites to ScrollBoss last week and two used a sprite base that I made from scratch. Click on the sprites to see the gallery page that has a work progress animation to see a few steps I took to make the base.

I spent a lot of time working on the ScrollBoss update including things that either didn’t get finished or are being saved for projects. The same goes for the drawn art but I do have a couple of doodle pages I’d like to throw out there. These were drawn right before I went to sleep so expect them to be even crappier than usual.

The John Stewart, Thing, Simon Belmont and Almighty Grandmaster Wizard poses may be good enough for full drawings sooner or later. Still toying with Upski Daisy’s look. These will have gallery pages when I get around to them.

Sprites of Eddie 'Skate' Hunter from Streets of Rage series
Sorry for having another small update but I was working on sample pictures for something that I’m keeping my fingers crossed about. The one thing that I can show you is a sprite of Eddie ‘Skate’ Hunter, a playable hero in Streets of Rage 2 and Streets of Rage 3. This is the same lil’ brawler I drew back in March of this year. Click on the lil’ thumbnail pick up there to go straight to the gallery page. There is a progress animation that shows some of the steps I took while working on this. I was in a bit of a rush so there aren’t as many steps.

The gallery page will also explain that Wizzy, master of the CPS2-style arcade soundtrack, is one of the main reasons that I finally got around to making this sprite. I was just about post this news post when I found out that Wizzy has the video posted. The man has expert timing like that! Enjoy the music!

Sorry for the lateness of this update but it’s probably even better if you see this one at night:

Who or what is Incubi? Don’t expect any spoilers from me or this quickly-done pic. I’ll just say Incubi is a villain in my main “hero vs. villain” style comic universe and any horror movie vibe you get from the picture is intentional.

Martian Manhunter flying stoically as he's known to do.Pocky/Manuke pixel art in the Capcom fighting game scale
Sorry for the lateness of this update. The J’onn J’onzz pic finally gets a background I made with some experimenting here and there. The Rocky/Manuke sprite that you may have seen in last week’s ScrollBoss update is now in the gallery with an animation that shows many of the steps I took to make it including the reference material. The Manuke sprite is actually a bit better than the one on ScrollBoss now for reasons you’ll see on the gallery page. Click the little previews over there to see their gallery pages and I hope you enjoy them.

This update is light for a few reasons. the first is that I’m working on a slightly big ScrollBoss update to keep making up for all of those small ones. The other reason is that I’m working on a new villain that I was going to show but may hold back due to some surprises. One of the sprites in the ScrollBoss update is a scratch-made Bomberman sprite.

Click here to see the gallery page with an animation that shows some of the scribbly steps I took to make it. You’ll see that sprite in a few more palettes when ScrollBoss gets updated later this week.

The Captain America pic from 2009 finally has a background. It’s an obvious background that I didn’t want to give him because I thought people would complain until someone at the convention last week suggested it. I figured out a way to make it less plain so I gave it a shot. Plus, the picture of Peter Pepper, the hero of the old Burgertime video game, is now in color. Click a picture to see it’s gallery page.

The main links page finally got an update that includes the old and new friends I ran into at the All Americon 2011. Be sure to check it out to see work from some amazing creative people!

ScrollBoss got an update yesterday that includes some new items and improvements to the Graphic Generators.

People, I had fun. Mad fun, even. Yes, I sold prints and made connections but that’s only a business-minded justification for having the kind of fun I had this Sunday. I had a chance to hang out with old and new friends, buy some cool stuff and spend my weekend doing something other than being hunched over a computer to work on things. People seemed to like the 2011 flyer, a fact that I’ll use to segue into how I updated the flyer’s gallery page to show a bit of work on the sprite and the original version of a graphic that had to be changed for obvious reasons. I’ll let you figure that last one out on your own.

The first convention last year was great but All Americon 2 was bigger and deffer bigger and better. More people made it to this for various reasons but the biggest seems to be “Man, you should’a been there last year!” I’d like to thank everyone who put it together not just for the great job they did in all areas but because this area needs a get-together like this and hopefully we’ll have have many many more in the future.

The main thing I dropped the ball on was getting website info for everyone. I still have it for a few people from last year so I’m going to repost some of it here. Check out the websites of these fine, fine people:

A.J. Sabino
Clockwork Adventures
Chris Kasmar
Johio
John Hazen

Things will go back to normal (whatever that is) next week. There will be a ScrollBoss update either this week or the next with new mini-logos and a minor new feature for the Graphic Generators.
