Wonder Woman turning.

1998 action pic with Ace of Clubs, Batterram and Phenomenon of the Vigilants

Wonder Woman returns in base color with an improved face. I’m not sure when I’ll have the chance but I plan to get this in full color very soon. The other new thing is a picture from 1998 with Ace of Clubs, Phenomenon and Batterram beating up some villains. Now that I’m finally better at drawing pictures of people just standing there so I plan to slowly get back to drawing action like this 1998 pic, but better.

ScrollBoss is currently celebrating the 20th Anniversary of 1989 and the next update will be mostly pixel-related. Yes, sprites. There will be at least one new from-scratch sprite hitting the site in that update and will be here the following Sunday. He happened to play Santa here last year and I may even kick out a Santafied version of the sprite if I have the time.

Alex Kidd in his Enchanted Castle outfit Old sketched faces for the Ice Cream Man

Still working like crazy on ScrollBoss’ “1989” feature but I made some quick art of a character from that great year of gaming, Alex Kidd. Sure, he debuted before that, but his Enchanted Castle game from 1989 is a favorite of mine and this is based on how he is in that game. If you want to get a hint at another pic I’ll be drawing soon, look at the sketch link on the Alex Kidd page. No new character profiles this week but I brought you something almost as good. If you’ve ever heard me talk about a sketch page where I drew the Ice Cream Man making a bunch of weird faces with ridiculous quotes under each one, I finally found, scanned and uploaded it. It’s hard to believe that pic is 15 years old!

the Baroness in distraction mode.the Baroness in distraction mode.

Yes, I finally finished coloring a Baroness picture for the first time since that 2002 test portrait for the aborted M.U.G.E.N. character that wasn’t finished but manages to get linked to a lot. Not only is the regular version finished but so is a version based on her appearance in the Crimson Strike Team convention set.

Amy Mao from my Twofold comic Sean Chan from my Twofold comic

Twofold month was over last week but you wouldn’t be able to tell from this week’s update. I cleaned up Amy Mao’s linework and brought her up to flat color mode. I already have some the minor details shaded but I’m going slow since I’m going to try coloring at a larger size than I’m used to. Her classmate and friend Sean Chan just got a redrawn pic with a funky new hairstyle and classic footwear that sets him apart from the rest of the Five Eyes school members. I’m still recovering from both last week and dealing with sinus problems so this was a low-output week for me.

Low output didn’t mean lazy, though. Now that I have a more stable system with more modern specs, I can finally learn how to use two programs that I’ll need for future projects: Inkscape and Blender. Here’s something I was experimenting with:

Pixel artwork of Twofold/Kenji Toshida
Poison and Billy from

In a crossover update with my ScrollBoss game fan site, there are two new things here and a site related thing over there. Twofold seems like a natural character to be in a fighting game so the sprite I just added is a hint at what he’d look like in 2-D video game. I didn’t want to make a Twofold sprite until I could do him justice in a from-scratch sprite form. I also put a background behind the Poison vs. Billy picture just in time for it to be used in a ScrollBoss:Minus World feature that just debuted there today.

In another part of the crossover action, Twofold was just added to the Vs. Maker graphic generator that makes fake pre-fight “character vs. character” fighting game screenshots.

While this is the end of Twofold month, don’t expect the Twofold material to stop. I’m still doing fight choreography and layout work for this first story and you’ll still see character profile picture and new profiles hitting the site. You’ll also see the Nutroll: the Illness – Chapter one start up again before the end of this year. I had to make a tough decision about some of the stuff that happens in it and you’ll find out about that once the pages start getting posted again. Enjoy both of the updates and I’ll see you here next week with more stuff!

Twofold's speed dashing pose 2009 editionAmy Mao from my Twofold comic

Note to self: stop trying to do theme weeks or months based on times that my sinus problems kick in every year. Nothing really major week but it’s all Twofold specific. Amy Mao deserves a better picture than I drew last week so I took another shot at it. I think this new one is much better. The second pic is of Twofold in his ninja running pose. I drew him in this same pose back in 2002 but I need more isolated artwork of him wearing his current outfit. You’ll see him doing this same pose at least once during the first issue. Also, that 1996 Entity picture’s character list was updated to add Amy Mao (I forgot she was in it!), Master Hsu. There are many more Twofold characters in that background but they aren’t in the character database list yet.

Twofold month will no longer be in September. Besides the yearly sinus problems I have during this month, I think it would make more sense to have it in February, the second month of the year. It may be the whole month or it may be just one big update. I’m not sure yet and I’ll jump off that bridge when I come to it.

This Twofold month will end in a crossover. A crossover between Twofold and what? Find out next Sunday!

Amy Mao from my Twofold comic
An early version of Twofold #1's second pageLayout sketches for my various characters.

Amy Mao, the resident tomgirl of the Five Eyes school along with Sean Chan, just got some profile artwork. She’s one of the characters named but not seen on the Twofold character profile list along with her sister Ann. At least, she didn’t until today since the new art was added to that Twofold profile index. Also added is a blast from the past is also the first color full-sized art I made of Twofold from 1992. Yes, 1992!

The other two links are the things I added to the site last Wednesday for the special 9/9/09 update. The main item was the second page of the the upcoming Twofold comic. The bonus was an old sketch page with various Twofold series characters, Nutroll and some of the superheroes. Amy Mao can barely be seen in that one too.

An early version of Twofold #1's second page
Layout sketches for my various characters.

It’s become popular ninja folklore that the ninja considers nine to be lucky even to the point of carrying nine shuriken (throwing stars). I thought that 9/9/09 would be the perfect time to drop a one-page preview of the upcoming Twofold comic. That is just a preview because a few things will be different once the comic gets it’s own section on the Twofold site much like the “Nutroll: the Illness” does in the Nutroll section. As a small bonus, I dug out an old sketch page with ideas for pictures that did and didn’t get drawn into full pin-ups or covers. Twofold, Passion Tanaka and even some students from the Five Eyes school are all on it along with some of my other characters. Another thing that makes it’s debut tonight is an early version of the new Twofold logo. You already see it if you’re reading this in the Twofold section of the site but click that link I just gave you if you’re not there yet.

So Twofold month starts now and will continue until the October so expect more things from his corner of my comic book universe to be in the next few updates. Characters will be redesigned, renamed and introduced on the site including some characters that I haven’t drawn in almost ten years. Hopefully this will be as fun for you as it is for me. Thanks for stopping in and sorry about the lateness of this update!

Eva Elleraze is getting ready for fun time.

Not only does Eva finally get a full color character profile picture but she also gets a fake last name: Elleraze. Seeing as how Eva is just an alias for a fictional character, the whole situation is full of fake. So what it? Anyway, she’s in full color now so go check the pic out if you feel like it.

Remember when I said that there’d be some Twofold-related happenings here on September 9th? I’ll probably have to tone that down due to some extreme day job related stuff. Seeing as how I may not even have the spare time to eat this Wednesday, I won’t have the time to do all the crazy uploading, checking and fixes that the new things would take. I still refuse to let my only opportunity at a 9/9/9 update pass by without doing something special here so I’ll try to have something special ready by then. Even more Twofold fun will hit next Sunday to make up for the slackin’ on Wednesday.

Captain America runs into the fraythe Baroness in distraction mode.

New things were uploaded around 2 PM before leaving the house but I’m just getting around to doing this write up. Not much to say here, really. Baroness was redrawn AGAIN and will get further digital fixing. The all-new, all-runnin’, all-about-to-whup-dat-behind pic of the week is of Captain America. I like how that turned out. I drew him almost at random but it seems fitting for a Memorial Day weekend update.

I’d have done more but I took time to break off a few pixels for semi-secret ScrollBoss game site update. Take care and I’ll see you next week.

Update 2008 May 25:

the Baroness in distraction mode.

And by next week I mean the next day. I turned the graphics card back on last night, made some digital fixes and smoothed the pic out at scan size. I tried to do a bit more work this afternoon but the computer started messing up so I had to shut the card off again. Even doing the base color for the pic was difficult thanks to the slowdown that happens with certain features while that card is off.
